As per the Human Rights Commission’s estimation, there are more than 10 million transgender people. We can bring change in the world and around us with a bit of understanding and human connection. It is the right time to eradicate discrimination.

Transgender Day of Visibility History

This day is dedicated to raising awareness and advocating for more protected Laws and Rights for transgender people. It is to empower them and get the rights of what they deserve. So, it is our responsibility to join hands together for this social cause on this day. We can imagine the pain and trauma that they undergo every day for being different from others.

They might be facing difficulties at their homes, schools, colleges, workplaces, communities, and everywhere. In 2009, US-based transgender activist Rachel Crandall founded this day, International Transgender Day of Visibility, to lessen the burden of discrimination and help transgender people live with dignity.

How can we support transgender?

  1. No more prejudice towards transgender people. They should treated equally with other people, and we should ensure that it happens in our homes and workplace.
  2. They should receive all the support they need to open up and come forward to live in society.
  3. They should appreciated for their hard work and contribution to society.
  4. Special awards should given to transgender people in their respective fields for their achievements.
  5. Law and punishment should be severe for the people who hurt transgender either physically or verbally.
  6. They should also given financial freedom, and they should given space to share their valuable suggestions in making important decisions.

Sathyasri Sharmila- She is the first transgender lawyer in India. Overcoming many obstacles, she pursued her Law and now fighting for justice for many people.

Joyita Mondal- She is India’s first transgender judge. At the age of 29, Joytia Mondal appointed at Lok Adalat in North Bengal in the year 2017 in October.

Prithika Yashini- She is India’s first transgender Police Officer. She is the sub-inspector though she declared failed with one mark. With confidence, she applied for re-evaluation and became a police officer.

Manabi Bandopadhyay- She is India’s first transgender college principal for Krishnagar Women’s College. She is also the first transgender person to complete her Ph.D. Degree.

Mumtaz- She is the first transgender person who contested elections. She is from Punjab and is part of the Bahujan Samaj Party. She has been with the party working for people for the past 11 years.

Shabnam Mausi- She is the first transgender MLA. She is from the Madhya Pradesh constituency. She is working for the development of the state by implementing new ideas. Even though her family did not support her, she can speak 12 different languages and inspires many.

Shabi- She is India’s first transgender soldier. She joined Marine Engineering Department in 2016. She joined the naval base in Visakhapatnam after the sex reassignment surgery in Delhi.

Jiya Das- She is the first transgender person who became an operation theatre technician.
